One Punch Man Anime Review: A hero just for fun

One-Punch Man is one of the anime which has made it a place with introducing something that was really a big gamble. I will explain myself in the later sections here.

One Punch Man is truly a great anime to watch. Not only it has a great storyline with well-placed gags and funny moments throughout the series but also has great animations during the fight scenes and action scenes. The Bald Protagonist is one of the reasons that you should be watching this Anime Right Now! Because you don’t see such things in the anime world especially in Shonen Genre. It is one of the best anime to add to your “Watch Now list”.

One-Punch Man is an Anime series that basically revolves around the 25-year-old guy named Saitama. Saitama is a simple-minded guy who likes to shop on the sales day in the supermarket. Apart for always looking out for such sales offers in the Newspapers and pamphlets he is also a Superhero just for fun (I mean just for a Hobby)

After going through his job life for some years, he happened to kill a monster on his way home. This incident led him to think that he should become a Hero. For his dream to come true, he starts to train himself. And like in Anime training many writers really go off the board to make the training interesting for the viewers (Everyone likes Anime training Right? You don’t know what the hero might discover about his own powers during the training).

In this anime, the training regiment is quite achievable in real life too but are the results achievable? (I don’t think so!!). The main character goes through a severe training schedule which consists of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 crunches, and 10 km running daily for three years straight. (See I was right it can be done within a real-life) There are some modifications though he only eats bananas and didn’t use any air conditioning device to toughen his body during the training years.

Going through this intense training he discovers that he has gone bald (Yes he loses his hairs because of the training, he was not bald from the start). This is not the only thing that he notices, he has become outrageously strong and it takes only one punch for him to finish his enemy on the battlefield. Even If the enemy is strong as hell but one punch is all he needs!! That’s all!

This really makes Saitama bored to death as there is no one enough challenging for him to defeat. Soon he meets Genos who is a cyborg with all the cool mechanisms made solely for killing the monsters. Genos witnesses the true power of the One Punch Man and decides to become his disciple. And here the story begins “The adventures of Saitama” as the Monsters and Villains reveal their ultimate plan to capture the whole world for their evil purposes.

There are many more things into play which makes this anime rise to the top.

Why you should watch One Punch Man?

Gags and Funny content-

As you may have already noticed that this anime fights don’t last too long like the fights in Naruto and Dragon Ball series, in which the fights last easily over 20 to 30 episodes. The fights in One Punch man really winds up in one Punch as the name itself suggests. The anime had to balance its episodes keeping this in mind. And what is a better way than making your viewers laugh in every episode (Like most of the Shonen anime). The composition in this anime is about 50-50 for action and gags. Taking for the second season it is more of 70-30 percent for action and gags. The second season has more action than the first season no doubt.

The expressions of the characters and the plot are really funny especially because of the special type of protagonist. As the hero doesn’t really get the right appreciation for the work he does make you laugh and frustrated at the same time. There are some serious characters in this anime but the writer sure knows how to make the viewers laugh out of the blue.

Unique Protagonist-

The anime world was really hyped when One Punch man was launched especially because of its main character that is bald. It is really unusual to see a bald guy playing the role of the Protagonist. I mean you may have already seen a lot of bald characters; they are in almost every anime but always as a side character.

In the anime world, Dragon Ball Z has really set the mindset of the viewers unconsciously that the guys with long hairs are more stronger. (In bleach Ichigo’s last form had Longhairs, In hunter X hunter Gon had long hairs in final form (Although for a different reason but still they were long), and there are a lot of anime that has main characters with long hairs)

If you are really bored of watching the same type of good looking protagonist then this is really a good anime for a change of pace. The chibi expressions really suit the plain Oval face of Saitama and you would have seen them a lot in the anime memes. The Unique Main character with a unique power is all that a good Shonen anime needs.

Unique Characters-

As the fights get over quickly when Saitama is involved it is really sensible to add a group of great characters as a side dish for the fight scenes to prolong the action scenes. One Punch Man Characters are unique and have better characteristics. Every character has its one time to shine and doesn’t feel left out in the dark.

The character development is great throughout the series. As it is a superhero genre anime. The characters really have a different set of abilities and powers. Example- An everyday hero, who patrols the city each and every day on his bicycle (And he doesn’t even have any superpowers but still more famous than Saitama), a 12-year-old looking girl with overpowered abilities and many more characters. You will know as you watch the anime.

No of episodes and seasons in One Punch man-

There are currently two seasons in One Punch Man

First season- 12 episodes

Second Season- 12 episodes

There is also an additional 12 ova (Original Video Animation, these episodes don’t have the relation with the storyline and are not meant for broadcasting and television purpose. The OVA are meant for DVDs and are uncensored) of One Punch Man.

Pros and cons of One Punch Man-

Apart from the reasons to watch One Punch Man, there are many other pros for which you should watch this anime. This anime is the work of One Writer (One is the name of the Writer). One is generally known for his satirical theme of anime and his hilarious character expression making skills.

The other pros are that this anime doesn’t contain any filler episodes. If you don’t know what are filler episodes here is a simple example and reason. Many of the anime like Naruto, Bleach, One piece and many other shonen anime suffer in their popularity due to the creation of the filler episodes. The Animation Company mainly creates the filler content in order to gather more time for the artist team to create more content. These filler episodes have no part in the storyline or the arc development. They are just episodes that come out of nowhere and end without any real meaning.

So you don’t have to skip even single episodes in this anime. The good thing in this anime is that the series has released the filler episodes in the form of ova and separately. So the diehard fans can enjoy a little longer if they want more of One Punch man gags and Action.

Overpowered Protagonist is liked by everyone, as you and the other viewer know that when he appears on the battle field the opponent is doomed. It’s fun to root for such heroes. As this anime is also a Super hero Themed genre, it is one of the reasons that this anime is so appreciated in the anime world and even who are not an anime fan right now. As Super heroes movies and stuff is liked by everyone (It is one of the most popular Genre all over the world) and One Punch Man is kind of relatable to the new viewers.

The Opening song of One Punch man also got quite some popularity among the anime fans. Tell us in the comment section if you like One Punch Man Opening song.

One of the Cons in One Punch man is there are too many fights in the whole season and each of them ends too fast. The fights often end in one punch of Saitama even though there are many other cool characters to extend the fights a little.

The main reason is there is no plot build up in this series in the first season. Many of the anime fans like to root for the enemy characters too. But in the first season there was no such character. But in the second season there is a great antagonist which is a good thing.

The other con is this anime doesn’t use the main things that the other shonen mainly uses. Like the classic flashbacks that the main Characters use to power-up in the middle of the match. But Saitama is already so powerful he doesn’t need to power up even a bit. Similarly, there is no friendship power concept in this anime. Which is one of the main concepts in anime like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, Hunter X Hunter, and many of the Shonen Series. I think this is one of the reasons why One punch man has only 12 episodes each season.

The other con is that the Main character always strives to be the best by training himself at each and every level of the storyline as he faces new stronger enemies. But in One Punch Man only trained for one time and he has become immensely powerful. I don’t think that he will be training again in this series again. Many of the anime fans like the training phase of the characters.

And as Saitama is a guy who is a Super Heroes just for fun he has no main goal and aspiration. So the viewers have a hard time to figure out where or in which direction the series and the storyline is moving.
